Climate is changing, So should we!

This year 2021, I went to a famous riverbank in our area. The whole place looked like it has been a trash bin. The two sides of the road were filled with trash. I asked one of my friends about this and she said it was all because of careless tourists and some people who arrange parties on that riverbank. 

Why are people's mindset is like this? Many of us want to change, but no one wants to change. Our elders are acting blind about our future, our earth's future. You may say that changing a bit cannot make a huge difference. But we have examples on behalf of us. You may say our economy will collapse. But, for you, Is over consumerism is a more great deal than our future? Earth doesn't need humans. If humans go extinct, the earth won't lose anything. But what if earth became non-liveable for humans in the future? Where we should go? To Mars?  

Our generation is not asking anything bigger than clean and breathable air, drinkable water, and greener earth to live on! The Western Ghats, the place where I live is getting more rainfall than it should be in past few years. Every monsoon, we and people who live in Canara coastal are getting our farms to drown in floods and heavy rainfall. Even in January 2021, we had an unexpected rainfall for a week. Do you think January is the month of rain? Similarly, In 2019, we were isolated in our homes for a week due to heavy rainfall and flood. According to our grandparents, they witnessed this kind of rain never before in their 70 years of life! 

 In Cape Town, South Africa, the water crisis is growing bigger. The scientists are saying that the city will run out of water soon. In Mexico City, 21 million people are getting limited water for daily use already. Melbourne in Australia may run out of water in little more than a decade. You know, we have less than 10 years to reverse the effects of climate change. We have to stop the atmospheric temperature from raising 1.5 °C more before 2030. 

In February 2021, Nanda Devi Glacier faced a horrible Avalanche. According to scientists, this was because of climate change. 

Earth has been giving us warnings like floods and droughts, even from those disasters, many of you elders are swallowing money. You say they are natural disasters, but I don't think man-made disasters are 'natural'? Don't you think it's time to change?

 Our scientists are saying that if climate change continues, the sea level will rise 30cms more by 2050. As an effect, our coastal areas may sink in seas, and 40%of the population on earth are living in coastal areas. The coral reefs may vanish. The ecological chain will be destroyed if we don't act now. Remember, the humans are at the end of the chain and will get a huge effect. There are laws about forest conservation in many countries. India has very strict laws. According to Wildlife Protection Act,1972, it's illegal to trade wild animals. But still, some cruel people trade the animals, and still, some cruel people buy them shamelessly.  

  There's still time to reverse climate change. The researchers are saying that there's a 50% of possibility of making earth normal again. Is 50% of hope is enough to give promise to the younger generation? Can we live upon 50%of hope?

 You always tell us not to be greedy, don't cut trees, don't lie, don’t break promises, don’t waste water... we are learning them, but what about you? Do you elders follow your own words? Can you even think of a world full of polluted air, dirty water, and unpredictable weather conditions? Well, our generation is going to face this situation if you don’t act NOW! 

 In 2020, Covid-19 came. It changed the whole thing. A hole we made in ozone healed. The air in cities became cleaner, people consumed less, suddenly carbon level reduced. After decades and decades, the earth began to breathe again. Nearly 10 months passed. Now we are heading back to the 'normality' which is completely abnormal. 

 Dear elders, the future we are going to face can be harsh. But it's in our hands to decide our future It's time to change!

 CLIMATE IS CHANGING, SO SHOULD WE!
