Hello Everyone, HAPPY EARTH DAY! Today my article about western ghats got published in 'Assembly' , a Malala fund's newsletter for girls! Here's the article: I was born in the middle of dense forests in the Western Ghats, a chain of mountains that runs along the western coast of India. The lives of my community here are woven between the valleys, forests and mountains. The Western Ghats protect our people from floods and other natural calamities that affect coastal areas. I love the greenery and liveliness of Western Ghats. They are very special to me. But over the past few years, I’ve seen climate change threaten everything I love. The Western Ghats and the futures of the people who live there are now at stake due to flooding, drought, deforestation and the building of dams and nuclear power plants.     ಮೊನ್ನೆ  ಗದ್ದೆ ಬಯಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದೆ. ಗದ್ದೆಯ ತುಂಬೆಲ್ಲ ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ  ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ  ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಾಣದಷ್ಟು  ಚಿಕ್ಕ  ಕೆಂಪು ಕೆಂಪು ಚುಕ್ಕಿ! ಅಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಗದ್ದೆಗೇನು ಸಿಡುಬು ಬಂದಿಲ್ಲ, ಅವು Drosera ಗಿಡಗಳು. ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ  ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಹೂವಿನ ಹಾಗೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ನನಗೆ ಆಗ ತಾನೇ ತೊಳೆದಿಟ್ಟ ಚಮಚಗಳನ್ನು ವೃತ್ತಾಕಾರವಾಗಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿಟ್ಟಂತೆ  ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೇ. ನಾನು ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಾಗ ನಮ್ಮ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ವಿಚಿತ್ರವಾದ ಬೋನಿನಂತಿದ್ದ ಒಂದು ಗಿಡ ಇತ್ತು. ಅದನ್ನು  Venus Flytrap ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದು ಒಂದು ಕೀಟಾಹಾರಿ ಸಸ್ಯ ಎಂದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಉದ್ದುದ್ದ ಬರೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಆ ಗಿಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅದೇನು ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ.  ನಾನು  ಅದೇ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯ ಬೆಳೆ  ಕಟಾವಾಗಿ ಮುಗಿದಿದ್ದ  ಗದ್ದೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಟ ಆಡಲು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಆಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಂಪು ಹೂವೊಂದು ಬಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಕಂಡಿತು.  ಅದೇನೆಂದು ಬಗ್ಗಿ ನೋಡಿದೆ. ಅದು ಹೂವಲ್ಲ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದ ಒಂದು ಗಿಡ ವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಬ್ಬನಿ ಬಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಹನಿಗಳು ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದವು. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಹುಡುಕಿ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಅದು Drosera  ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಿತು. ಇನ್ನೊಮ್ಮೆ ನಾನು 6 ನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾಗ  ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಗಾರ್ಡನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ...

ಮೊನ್ನೆ  ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 7 ನೇ ತಾರೀಕು ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಊರಿನ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ತಾಣ, ಸೊಂದಾ ಕೋಟೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದೆವು. ಮೊದಲು ಸೋದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಈ ಊರಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಬಹಳ ಕುತೂಹಲಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಸೊಂದಾ ಕೋಟೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ನಾನು ಈ ಬಾರಿ ನನ್ನ ಗೆಳೆಯರೂ  ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದಾಗ ಖುಷಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಟು  ನಿಂತೆ. ಸಿರಸಿಯಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 15-16  ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ದೂರವಿರುವ ಸೊಂದಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೀ ಕೋಟೆಯಷ್ಟೆ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ  ಅದೇ ಅರಸರೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದ ಸ್ವರ್ಣವಳ್ಳಿ ಮಠ , ವಾದಿರಾಜ ಮಠ ಮತ್ತು ಜೈನ ಮಠಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಅಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ನಾನು ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಬರೀ ಕೋಟೆಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಭೇಟಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ.      1555 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಸಪ್ಪ ನಾಯಕ ಎಂಬ ಅರಸ ಈ ರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದನಂತೆ. ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಿ, ಅರಸನ ಹೆಸರೇ ಅರಸಪ್ಪ ನಾಯಕ!  ಈ ಸೋದೇ ಅರಸರು ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಸಾಮಂತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆಗ ವಿಜಯನಗರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದದ್ದು ಸದಾಶಿವರಾಯ ಎಂಬ ರಾಜ. ಈ ಅರಸಪ್ಪ ನಾಯಕ ಒಬ್ಬ ಜೈನ ರಾಜನಾಗಿದ್ದನಂತೆ.1565 ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಪತನವಾದ ನನತರ ಈ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯ ಬಹಮನಿ ಸುಲ್ತಾನರ ಸಾಮಂತ ರಾಜ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಅರಸಪ್ಪನ ನಾಯಕನ ಮರಣದ ನಂತರ  1674 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವಾಜಿ ಈ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನು ವಶ ಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಎಂದೂ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಪೋರ್ತುಗೀಸರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ರಾಜವಂಶ ಕಾರವಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸದಾಶಿವಘಡ ಎಂಬ ಕೋಟೆ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿತ...

This year 2021, I went to a famous riverbank in our area. The whole place looked like it has been a trash bin. The two sides of the road were filled with trash. I asked one of my friends about this and she said it was all because of careless tourists and some people who arrange parties on that riverbank.  Why are people's mindset is like this? Many of us want to change, but no one wants to change. Our elders are acting blind about our future, our earth's future. You may say that changing a bit cannot make a huge difference. But we have examples on behalf of us. You may say our economy will collapse. But, for you, Is over consumerism is a more great deal than our future? Earth doesn't need humans. If humans go extinct, the earth won't lose anything. But what if earth became non-liveable for humans in the future? Where we should go? 2 020ರಲ್ಲಿ ಲಾಕ್ಡೌನ್ ಶುರುವಾದಾಗಿನಿಂದ  ಹತ್ತು ತಿಂಗಳು ನಾನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿದ್ದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ . ಆಗ ತಾನೇ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 30-40 ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಬಂದು ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದವು. ಡಾ. ಕೆ. ಎನ್. ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯ ಅವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು, ತೇಜೋ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ, ಪುನರ್ವಸು,ಮಧ್ಯಗಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಷೆಲ್ಫ್ ಏರಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದವು. ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಮೊದಲೇ ಅಮ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಅಪ್ಪನಿಂದ ಬುಕ್ ಆಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು.ಮೊದಲು ಬರೀ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು fantasyಗಳನ್ನೇ ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಐದಾರು ತಿಂಗಳು ಕಳೆದಿದ್ದ ನಾನು ಹೀಗೆ ಒಂದು ದಿನ  ಅಪ್ಪ ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯನವರ ಕರಿಸಿರಿಯಾನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುತಿದ್ದದ್ದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಕುತೂಹಲದಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿನ ಯಾವುದೋ ಹಾಳೆ ತೆಗೆದು ಓದಿದೆ. ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಕುತೂಹಲ ಬಂತು. ಮೊದಲ ಪುಟದಿಂದ ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದೆ. ಅದೇ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನೂ ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದ್ದೆ! ಕರಿಸಿರಿಯಾನ    ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಗೊಂದಲವಾದರೂ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದಾಗ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಒಳಾರ್ಥ ತಿಳಿಯಿತು. ಕರಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಆನೆ, ಸಿರಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಏನು ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸುವುದೇನೂ ಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ, ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ. ಇನ್ನು  ಯಾನ ಎಂದರೆ ಪಯಣ. ಆನೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯದ ಪಯಣ. ಇವರ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಹೆಸರುಗಳೂ ಹೀಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗುವುದು ವಿಶೇಷ(ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ: ಕನಕ ಮುಸುಕು, ಕಪಿಲಿಪಿಸಾರ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ).ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಥ್ರಿಲ್ಲರ್ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ...
